According to the above projections, our B graders are losing too much ground this season.

It'll be a good experience to learn from it though :)

It is the same case as last year like I predicted so.

The breakdown is as follows:
We have the edge in all 3 field events on Day 3, it is possible to score an 15-20 points advantage.

We also have the potential to gain points in 400mH, 400m and 1500m due to lower positions achieved in heats/semi-finals, while LSC has this advantage in 200m and 800m.

No big changes in 100m and 100mH/110mH.

We have the upper hand in relays as well.

Since LSC's gains would come from morning's track events, while ours are in the afternoon.
If we could use the field events to keep pace with them in the morning, we would be able to stage a comeback going into the relays.

Z...sleeper:
It will surely be very tight in Day 3. Our friends at La Salle Road predict that the difference between us and them in overall will be again in single digits. As the observatory predicts Friday's forecast will be warm and humid, it will be much better than day 2, even we spectators feel freezing cold that day! If our boys perform to the best that day, I think we might have the chance to claim the A C and Overall while coming 2nd in B. But next year will surely be pretty hard to win...

We usually win when we win C grade (A grade always win with comfortable margin). It has been a different story for 2 years in a row now.

What's the root cause to the fact that we are lagging far behind in B grade these days? How's the plan to beef up the grade?

I also predicted the final margin to be single digit again this year.

Both schools have 2 finalists in most track event finals.
We missed 1 in A Grade 400m, 800m and 110mH, 1 in B Grade 800m, and both in B Grade 100mH;
while LSC missed 1 in A Grade 400m and 400mH, both in A Grade 100m and 200m, and 1 in B Grade 100mH.

To be exact, we always win the Overall when we win C Grade (15 times).
Last year LSC broke another "record", being Champion of one Grade and beating the 2nd place by at least 60 points, but still lost the Overall (9 times).

LSC vastly out-recruited us in 93 and 94 level, these boys made up of last year's B Grade, and the senior half of this year's B Grade.
Our deficit in B Grade will be cut significantly this year with the help of the 95 boys, while LSC would cut the deficit in A Grade with the 93 boys.
But I'm afraid LSC will win A Grade next year and proceed to win the Overall (2 times).
I come by your side at the turn of the tide.

My guess is that LSC has the advantage and will take a healthy lead (10-15 points) into the relays (after killing us in the 1500m).

A loss is actually not too bad. Our boys will probably learn more from it and realise that you need to to put in the effort in training and that being a "team-player" is more than just earning a lot of points. Winning had come too easily in the past few years.

It's pretty obvious from the middle and long distances that LSC, and many other schools (e.g. Hoi Ping) is out-training us. We only have a few good performers like Chan Yan Lam (who still has a lot of maturing to do judging from his antics on Day 2). Natural sprint speed cannot be acquired through training, but stamina and speed endurance can.

A bitter loss can prompt our boys to wake up and learn more important things.

Having said that though, hats off to the many boys who have given much effort during their (however long or short) athlete career at DBS. The problem lies with not being able to attract enough interests to maintain the critical mass to carry on our tradition in athletics.

The captains presented a very inspiring speech during today's special assembly.

Training is one aspect which can be improved by practice.

Other aspects include team tactic, athlete psychology, recruiting strategy, equipment investment, peripheral service support, family support... All of these need planning, investment and coordination.

Sports is a science. Recruiting stars does not guarantee success, planning and training are needed as well.

Trailing by about 20 points midday.

La Salle did well in morning track events.

We'll need to do very good in 400m and 100m in the afternoon. 1500m is La Salle's stronghold.

Deficit narrowed to 2 points after morning field events were tallied.

It'll be really nail-biting this afternoon. If we can snatch a few more points (from previous projections) in 1500m, we are going to sustain.
